Mission statement
What we stand for
Our mission is to equip learners to reach their full potential while developing holistically at play. We promote self love and positive body acceptance while encouraging healthy friendships and interacting with carefully planned activities. Curriculum
What We Teach
We teach the NCF Curriculum differently.
This age group is from 2 and a half years up. Running in Semesters allows for more time to learn at the Learner’s own pace. We provide a balance of one on one and group activities.
Makaton, literacy, songs, rhymes and constant spoken language is modelled to promote speaking, learning and understanding of the spoken language.
We as a team want to promote and instill a understanding of Mathematical concepts through constant repetition of visual and three dimensional objects.
Our overall goal is to instill life skills for independence through movement, music, drama, art and social interaction. Everything we do is centered around play.
Remedial GR R (from 5 years up)
This class is run in line with the CAPS curriculum. However the teaching is centred around concrete objects and experiencing the activity.
All of the learning experiences are centred around engaging and fun activities.
“Experiential [learning] is a philosophy and methodology in which educators purposefully engage with students in direct experience and focused reflection in order to increase knowledge, develop skills, and clarify values” (Association for Experiential Education, para.
How We Teach (Scenarios)
How we assist Special Needs Children.
The following information will reinforce the understanding that we follow an eclectic method of teaching.
The signing methods used at Kids At Edu-Play are ASL and Makaton.
Dyspraxia
This disorder affects one’s movement and co-ordination. With planned fun learning activities that require more than one sense at a time, we encourage participation.
Global Development Delay
Children with GDD are delayed in their cognitive and physical development. Instructions are simplified and skill requirements are broken down into smaller segments.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
A learning disability that affects cognitive, language and social abilities. A key aspect is our fixed routine. We also incorporate some of our learners interests into our lesson plans.
Dyscalculia
Dyscalculia is a learning disorder that affects number related skills and understanding. Concepts are taught in a simplified and practical manner using concrete objects.
ADHD
Known as a common neurodevelopmental disorder of childhood. Our classroom minimizes distractions, has a good structure and routine and regular movement breaks.
Dyslexia
This is a learning disability that affects reading. We offer the learner choices. Multisensory input activities are used in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Apraxia
Difficulty with skilled movement caused by brain disease/damage. We incorporate music, rythm, song, sign, prompts and movement into our daily activities.
Anxiety
Anxiety may be an indicator of underlying disease should feelings interfere with daily living. We include transitional periods, music and small group activities.
Down Syndrome
Known as a genetic chromosome 21 disorder. Visual learning is promoted. The Lessons and activities include the Learner’s interests and abilities.
